'Charlie's Angel' Farrah Fawcett dies at 62

LOS ANGELES — Farrah Fawcett, the "Charlie's Angels" star whose feathered blond hair and dazzling smile made her one of the biggest sex symbols of the 1970s, died Thursday after battling cancer. She was 62.
The pop icon, who in the 1980s set aside the fantasy girl image to tackle serious roles, died shortly before 9:30 a.m. in a Santa Monica hospital, spokesman Paul Bloch said.
Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who had reunited with Fawcett as she fought anal cancer, was at her side, along with close friend Alana Stewart, Bloch said.
"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."
Said Stewart: "There are no words to express the deep sense of loss that I feel. For 30 years Farrah was much more than a friend, she was my sister, and although I will miss her terribly I know in my heart that she will always be there as that angel on the shoulder of everyone who loved her."
Other "Charlie's Angels" stars paid tribute to Fawcett.
"Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith. And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels," Jaclyn Smith said.
Said Cheryl Ladd: "She was incredibly brave, and God will be welcoming her with open arms."
Fawcett burst on the scene in 1976 as one-third of the crime-fighting trio in TV's "Charlie's Angels." A poster of her in a clingy swimsuit sold in the millions.
Her full, layered hairstyle became all the rage, with girls and women across America adopting the look.
She left the show after one season but had a flop on the big screen with "Somebody Killed Her Husband." She turned to more serious roles in the 1980s and 1990s, winning praise playing an abused wife in "The Burning Bed."
She had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006. As she underwent treatment, she enlisted the help of O'Neal, who was the father of her now 24-year-old son, Redmond.
This month, O'Neal said he asked Fawcett to marry him and she agreed. They would wed "as soon as she can say yes," he said.
Her struggle with painful treatments and dispiriting setbacks was recorded in the television documentary "Farrah's Story." Fawcett sought cures in Germany as well as the United States, battling the disease with iron determination even as her body weakened. NBC estimated the May 15, 2009, broadcast drew nearly 9 million viewers.
In the documentary, Fawcett was seen shaving off most of her trademark locks before chemotherapy could claim them. Toward the end, she's seen huddled in bed, barely responding to a visit from her son.
Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Smith made up the original "Angels," the sexy, police-trained trio of martial arts experts who took their assignments from a rich, mysterious boss named Charlie (John Forsythe, who was never seen on camera but whose distinctive voice was heard on speaker phone.)
The program debuted in September 1976, the height of what some critics derisively referred to as television's "jiggle show" era, and it gave each of the actresses ample opportunity to show off their figures as they disguised themselves in bathing suits and as hookers and strippers to solve crimes.
Backed by a clever publicity campaign, Fawcett – then billed as Farrah Fawcett-Majors because of her marriage to "The Six Million Dollar Man" star Lee Majors – quickly became the most popular Angel of all.
"She was an angel on Earth and now an angel forever," Majors said Thursday.
Her face helped sell T-shirts, lunch boxes, shampoo, wigs and even a novelty plumbing device called Farrah's faucet. Her flowing blond hair, pearly white smile and trim, shapely body made her a favorite with male viewers in particular.
A poster of her in a dampened red swimsuit sold millions of copies and became a ubiquitous wall decoration in teenagers' rooms.
Thus the public and the show's producer, Spelling-Goldberg, were shocked when she announced after the series' first season that she was leaving television's No. 5-rated series to star in feature films. (Ladd became the new "Angel" on the series.)
But the movies turned out to be a platform where Fawcett was never able to duplicate her TV success. Her first star vehicle, the comedy-mystery "Somebody Killed Her Husband," flopped and Hollywood cynics cracked that it should have been titled "Somebody Killed Her Career."
The actress had also been in line to star in "Foul Play" for Columbia Pictures. But the studio opted for Goldie Hawn instead. "Spelling-Goldberg warned all the studios that that they would be sued for damages if they employed me," Fawcett told The Associated Press in 1979. "The studios wouldn't touch me."
She finally reached an agreement to appear in three episodes of "Charlie's Angels" a season, an experience she called "painful."
She returned to making movies, including the futuristic thriller "Logan's Run," the comedy-thriller "Sunburn" and the strange sci-fi tale "Saturn 3," but none clicked with the public.
Fawcett fared better with television movies such as "Murder in Texas," "Poor Little Rich Girl" and especially as an abused wife in 1984's "The Burning Bed." The last earned her an Emmy nomination and the long-denied admission from critics that she really could act.
As further proof of her acting credentials, Fawcett appeared off-Broadway in "Extremities" as a woman who is raped in her own home. She repeated the role in the 1986 film version.
Not content to continue playing victims, she switched type. She played a murderous mother in the 1989 true-crime story "Small Sacrifices" and a tough lawyer on the trail of a thief in 1992's "Criminal Behavior."
She also starred in biographies of Nazi-hunter Beate Klarsfeld and photographer Margaret Bourke-White.
"I felt that I was doing a disservice to ourselves by portraying only women as victims," she commented in a 1992 interview.
In 1995, at age 50, Fawcett posed partly nude for Playboy magazine. The following year, she starred in a Playboy video, "All of Me," in which she was equally unclothed while she sculpted and painted.
She told an interviewer she considered the experience "a renaissance," adding, "I no longer feel ... restrictions emotionally, artistically, creatively or in my everyday life. I don't feel those borders anymore."
Fawcett's most unfortunate career moment may have been a 1997 appearance on David Letterman's show, when her disjointed, rambling answers led many to speculate that she was on drugs. She denied that, blaming her strange behavior on questionable advice from her mother to be playful and have a good time.
In September 2006, Fawcett, who at 59 still maintained a strict regimen of tennis and paddleball, began to feel strangely exhausted. She underwent two weeks of tests and was told the devastating news: She had anal cancer.
O'Neal, with whom she had a 17-year relationship, again became her constant companion, escorting her to the hospital for chemotherapy.
"She's so strong," the actor told a reporter. "I love her. I love her all over again."
She struggled to maintain her privacy, but a UCLA Medical Center employee pleaded guilty in late 2008 to violating federal medical privacy law for commercial purposes for selling records of Fawcett and other celebrities to the National Enquirer.
"It's much easier to go through something and deal with it without being under a microscope," she told the Los Angeles Times in an interview in which she also revealed that she helped set up a sting that led to the hospital worker's arrest.
Her decision to tell her own story through the NBC documentary was meant as an inspiration to others, friends said. The segments showing her cancer treatment, including a trip to Germany for procedures there, were originally shot for a personal, family record, they said. Songkran’s set to make a splash

THIS year’s Songkran festival is set to be a wet and wild three days of fun, festivities and religious ceremonies. Songkran, or Thai New Year, will run from April 13 to 15, and is traditionally celebrated with lots of water throwing. And although it is a Thai festival, foreigners are welcome to join in and enjoy the fun atmosphere. Songkran is held in the hottest and driest month of the year when a bit of water can be both cooling and refreshing. But be warned. You WILL get wet, so wear clothes that can withstand a soaking.

The festival has undergone major changes since the early days when it was seen as a time to cleanse Buddha images in temples and household shrines with perfumed water to bring prosperity and good luck. It is still a time for cleansing, and renewal, and a time to celebrate the passing of another year and to usher in the new year.

Songkran will be celebrated throughout the Kingdom, and in Phuket, there will be a myriad of fun activities on offer.
The three days of Songkran are national public holidays and most business in Phuket, will be closed from April 12 until April 15.

Phuket will start celebrating on Sunday April 12 with a street parade and a beach party organised by the Patong Municipality, TAT Phuket and the Patong Hotels Association. The celebrations begin at 5pm with a street parade along Rajaprajanugroh and Thaweewong Road, finishing up in Soi Bangla. A stage will be set up in Soi Bangla, and there will be a traditional Thai dance show, a baby contest, and a Miss Songkran International beauty pageant which is open only to foreign ladies aged over 18. On Monday, April 13, Thai people will gather at the Suwan Khiri Wong temple to pray and give food and clothing to the monks. They will then bathe the Buddha images, monks and older people by gently pouring perfumed water over them to bring good luck and prosperity for the New Year. People will also splash water and sprinkle powder on each other. Songkran also demonstrate the Thai people’s respect for water.

Water is seen as something that can wash away dirt and badness, and it also represents a cooling freshness during the hottest month of the year. The word Songkran means ‘movement’ or ‘change’ and refers to the sun’s movement from Aries to Taurus. Like other importance religious Thai traditions, Thai people will prepare food and take it to the temple during Songkran. They also carry sand to temple which they will use to build small temples with their bare hands. The monks and older people are also bathed in the same fragrant water, and new clothes are given to the monks as a mark of respect.

Songkran dates back to ancient Hindu mythology when the Brahmin in India believed that the sun finished its orbit round the earth on April 13. Legend has it that there was a four-faced god named Kabilla Phrom who loved to bet. Kabilla is believed to be the lord of Songkran, and his seven daughters became the symbols of the Songkran festival. One day he heard about a seven-year-old boy who could recite scriptures in public. He set out to test the boy, Thammabal Kumara’s knowledge, and posed a riddle.

He bet the boy that if he could solve the riddle, he would give him his head, but if the boy failed to come up with the right answer within seven days, he would have to cut off his own head. “Where is a person’s aura in the morning, where is it at noon, and where is it at night?” he asked. The boy thought hard for six days, but he still couldn’t figure out the answers. But on the last day, while lying in despair under a palm tree, he overheard a pair of eagles laughing about how they would soon feast on the body of a boy who would not be able to solve a riddle, and during their conversation, the eagles disclosed the answers. On the day of judgment, Thammabal Kumara repeated what he had heard.

“In the morning, a person’s aura appears on his face, so he washes it, at noon, it is at his chest, so he wears perfume there, and at night, his aura moves to his feet, so he bathes them,” he repeated.

Kabilla Phrom had lost the bet, and cut off his own head. But the head of Kabilla Phrom had some strange qualities. If it should touch the ground, the earth would catch fire, if it was left in the air, there would be no rain, and if it was dropped into the sea, the sea would dry up. Kabilla Phrom’s seven daughters put their father’s head on a tray and carried it in a procession around Mount Sumeru before putting it into a Cave on Mount Krailat. Every year, on Songkran Day, the seven daughters would bring out the god’s head and carry it in a procession around Mount Sumeru. The seven Ladies of the Songkran festival are named after the seven days of the week. Each year, Songkran Day will fall on one of those seven days. According to the legend, these Songkran ladies are more hideous than gorgeous.

The Sunday lady, called ‘Tungsa Devi’, wears pomegranate flowers behind her ears, she holds a discus in her right hand and a conch in her left, and she rides on a garuda. The Monday lady’s name is ‘Korakha Devi’, she wears flowers from the Indian cork tree behind her ears, and has a sword in her right hand and a staff in her left, and she eats oil and rides on a tiger. The Tuesday lady, named ‘Raksot Devi’, carries a trident in her right hand and a bow in
her left. She drinks blood and rides a pig. The Wednesday lady is called ‘Montha Devi’, she drinks milk and rides a donkey. The Thursday lady, called ‘Kirini Devi’, has a hook and a bow, and rides an elephant. The Friday lady, called ‘Kimitha Devi’, wears water lilies behind her ears, she has a sword in her right hand and a lute in her left, and she rides a buffalo.

The Saturday lady is named ‘Mahothon Devi, and she has a discuss and trident and she rides a peacock. This year’s Songkran falls on a Monday, which is Korakha Dev’s day.

The Psychology of Online Dating

In the first article in this series (The Psychologists Viewpoint) I outlined the different types of research using personal advertisements, generally printed advertisements published on the 'lonely hearts' pages of newspapers and magazines.
You will recall that over the last few years psychologists have collected and analysed thousands of these personal descriptions, and have found patterns and sex differences in what people want from a partner, how people advertise themselves to a prospective partner, and how well they pick up on the sort of things the other sex is looking for. This article looks at this from the perspective of male desires and female self-descriptions; looking at what men have actually said they are looking for in a partner, and how good women are at saying the right things to attract a man. Although this is about male wants it is probably of more use to women, particularly when you are considering the sort of thing to say in the 'in your own words' box of your online dating profile.

Firstly we will discuss the features that men particularly seek when describing their ideal partner and how women use their knowledge of this when describing themselves. Secondly we will consider how good women are at this - are there some things that women could say that would make a big difference? Finally we will consider how women can best use this information to hook the interest and get a proper look from men who are browsing through pages and pages of online profiles.

Before you read any further, pause for a moment and ask yourself what men are typically looking for in a female partner. Think of maybe four things and note them down ... now read on.

What does the research say?

One of the strongest results to emerge from examining personal advertisements is the sex difference in the importance of attractiveness. Apart from age and sex, attractiveness (beauty, good looks etc.) is the most frequently described characteristic in personal advertisements written by both men and women but a whole range of studies have found that women are much more likely to describe themselves as attractive or using similar terms (handsome, beautiful, good looking etc.) than men are, and men are far more likely to say they are looking for someone who is attractive than women are.

This suggests that not only are men more interested in a partner's physical attractiveness than women but that women already know and use this information. This is also backed up when you look at other physical descriptions such as hair and eye colour. Women are far more likely to mention their own hair and eye colour than men and men are far more likely to say they are looking for a 'brown eyed brunette' (or whatever) than women are. The other physical attribute that stands out is build or weight, often expressed as dress size. Granted there is no simple male equivalent to a woman describing herself as a 'size 10' (pretty slim in UK dress sizes) but there are plenty of other words (trim, slender, muscular) that could be used. Even so, men are more likely to describe the size/weight range of the person they are looking for than women, and women are more likely to describe their own size, build or weight than men.
Another important factor that emerges from the research is age. Age is almost always mentioned in advertisements written by both men and women. Usually both the age of the writer and the age range of their preferred partner are specified. There is little difference in whether or not age is mentioned so it looks like it is similarly important to both sexes. However there is a difference when you start looking at the actual numbers. In general, women are looking for someone of similar age to themselves or someone who is older by a few years. It is rare to come across a woman who states she is looking for someone younger. Men are usually looking for someone of a similar age or younger, in some cases considerably younger. This suggests youth is something that is valued by men, and perhaps this ties in with ideas about what is attractive.

Apart from stating their physiological age in years, many women who are (perhaps) re-entering the dating scene a little later in life give a more subjective evaluation of their age, usually saying something that implies youth such as young at heart, youthful, or looks younger. Older men also do this but it is much more common in women's self-descriptions and women begin to use claims of youthfulness at earlier ages than men.

Overall, then, looking at personal advertisements the biggest difference between men and women is over description of physical characteristics including attractiveness and body size or shape, and specific physical features that may be considered attractive such as eye colour and hair colour. Age ties in with this if we assume a link between youth and attractiveness. Men tend to want younger, sometimes much younger partners while women, particularly older women, tend to describe themselves as being youthful in outlook or directly tie this in with looks by claiming to be young looking for their age.

On a wider level, a number of researchers have remarked that when women describe themselves they tend to emphasise their male-valued, physical traits rather than the traits that they, as women, place value on. It would be easy to argue that women do this because they hold stereotypical, even prejudiced views of men but the strong evidence of a match between how women describe themselves and what men actually say they want indicates women have got it about right. It appears that when women write an advertisement or dating profile, they often do a good job of writing for a male audience and seem to have a pretty clear idea of how best to promote themselves and attract male attention.

How can we use this?
Most of this is unsurprising and you may be thinking that you already knew this. However you now know for sure that this is not just prejudice but is backed up by scientific research. More importantly, this is knowledge you can use to improve your own profile.

Although there is little you can do to change your age, attractiveness and physical features, there is plenty of scope to decide what you emphasise and the kind of language you use. I am not suggesting that you lie, particularly since the whole idea is that you will eventually meet up and overt lying about physical features would do you no good at all. Without lying it is perfectly possible to focus on your best features and try to use the kind of keywords that men are likely to pick up on.

With online dating profiles, photographs are generally a prerequisite to getting responses and given the sex differences in the importance of attractiveness, it's probably fair to say a good quality photo showing you in your best light is particularly important for women.

Apart from this there are the 'in your own words' sections of your profile. If you or others consider you attractive then mention this, don't worry about the fact that it is already in the form-like section of your profile. If you are slim then mention this. If you are not comfortable with claiming either of these then mention your most attractive features such as your beautiful eyes, lovely auburn hair, attractive personality and/or young outlook. Notice the language I am using: it may seem trivial but adjectives like attractive, beautiful, lovely and young will catch the attention of the men who (on average) are more interested in this sort of thing than women. Men are predisposed towards spotting this kind of thing and even those who claim to be more interested in personality than looks will notice these words. If you feel you can refer to yourself as young and stunningly beautiful with a great figure then do so. If you don't feel that confident then use more moderate language or qualify these statements (young at heart, considered beautiful by some, attractive figure) and refer to specific features like your hair and eyes. Using key words such as these and mentioning your physical features makes it more likely you will grab his attention and your profile will get more than a brief scan and then move on.

To wrap things up, this article has outlined the results of psychological research into what men say they want in a partner and how women describe themselves. This information has then been used to provide insight into the sort of language that might help a woman's personal description catch a man's eye.

พ.อ.สรรเสริญ แก้วกำเนิด โฆษกกองทัพบก ให้สัมภาษณ์ถึงมติที่ประชุมคณะกรรมการติดตามสถานการณ์ร่วม (คตร.) ว่า การประชุมเมื่อวันที่ 26 พฤศจิกายนที่ผ่านมา เป็นการเชิญหัวหน้าส่วนราชการมาประชุมมากกว่าทุกครั้ง มีทั้งคณะกรรมการและบุคคลที่เราเชิญมาซึ่ง คตร. มีอำนาจที่จะเชิญหัวหน้าส่วนราชการ หรือท่านใดที่ให้ความเห็นที่ดีได้ ซึ่งการประชุมที่ผ่านมามีการเสนอหลายมิติ หลายแนวทาง รวมถึงผลกระทบที่ตามมาแต่ละมิติ สรุปคือ มีการพูดถึงการสลายการชุมนมกลุ่มพันธมิตรที่สนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ ซึ่งที่ประชุมพูดว่า หากสลายการชุมนุมต้องคิดให้ดี ไม่ใช่ใช้โล่กระบองตีแล้วจบ เพราะต้องมีสิ่งนอกเหนือนั้นมาอีก เมื่อฝ่ายหนึ่งมีความตั้งใจจริงที่จะม้วนเดียวจบ เมื่อเจ้าหน้าที่ต้องปฏิบัติตามหน้าที่ความเสียหายจะเกิดขึ้นกับทั้งสนามบิน และผู้ชุมนุม เพราะสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิเป็นสถานที่ปิดอาจทำให้ผู้ชุมนุมสูญเสียชีวิตได้ และอาจจะมากกว่าเหตุการณ์วันที่ 7 ตุลาคมหลายเท่า แล้วใครจะรับผิดชอบ
โฆษกกองทัพบก กล่าวว่า ส่วนแนวทางความเห็นใช้กำลังทหารเข้าแก้ปัญหาภาพรวม ไม่ว่าจะเรียกว่าปฏิวัติหรือรัฐประหารก็ต้องเจอการต่อต้านของกลุ่มที่ไม่ เห็นชอบ คือ คนเสื้อแดง ซึ่งผลที่ตามมาไม่แตกต่างกับการสลายการชุมนุม และเสียหายเหมือนกันแบบเดียวกัน รวมถึงอาจจะเป็นตัวเร่งเวลาให้เกิดปัญหาเร็วขึ้น และไม่ได้เป็นการแก้ไขปัญหาที่แท้จริง เพราะทั้ง 2 กลุ่มคือคนไทยเหมือนกัน รวมถึงการปฏิวัติไม่ใช่ทางออกหรือจุดจบของปัญหา ดังนั้น การถอยคนละก้าว คืนอำนาจให้ประชาชน พันธมิตรเลิกชุมนุม ทุกอย่างจะคลี่คลาย และให้ประชาชนตัดสินใจอีกครั้ง หากตัดสินใจแบบเดิมหรือแบบใหม่ ทุกคนจะต้องยอมรับในการตัดสินใจ
พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าวว่า กองทัพมีความเข้มแข็งและเฉียบขาด ถ้าเป้าหมายตรงหน้าคืออริราชศัตรู แต่นี้ไม่ใช่ เป็นคนไทยทุกคน ทหารทุกคนจะรู้สึกเสียใจและเจ็บปวด หากจะปฏิบัติภารกิจที่รู้อยู่แล้วว่า จะทำให้เกิดความสูญเสียกับประชาชน ทหารจะทำได้อย่างไร ทั้งหมดนี้จึงเสนอเป็นมติที่ประชุม ไม่ใช่การชี้นำของบุคคลหนึ่งคนใด เป็นความเห็นร่วมกันของทั้งภาคส่วนราชการและประชาชน ซึ่งท่านได้เสนอแนวทางที่ดีที่สุดในฐานะที่ท่านได้รับมอบหมายตำแหน่งจาก นายกฯให้เป็นประธานคตร. ส่วนจะมีการยกเลิก คตร. หลังได้รับข้อเสนอหรือไม่นั้น ขึ้นอยู่กับนายกฯ
“ มติ 4 ข้อ ที่ประชุม คตร. ผบ.ทบ.ได้สั่งการให้ผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องนำเรียนสรุปถึงนายกฯโดยเร็ว ซึ่งขณะนี้ทางฝ่ายยุทธการได้เสนอให้นายกรัฐมนตรีแล้ว โดยผ่านทางสำนักนายกรัฐมนตรี แล้วแต่ดุลยพินิจของนายกรัฐมนตรี แต่หากรัฐบาลไม่เห็นชอบด้วยจะต้องมีการประชุมคตร.ใหม่โดยเร็วที่สุดภายใน สัปดาห์นี้ เพื่อหาแนวทางหรือข้อเสนอใหม่ ทั้งนี้ หากรัฐบาลจะประกาศพื้นที่ความมั่นคง กองทัพจะบูรณาการกับกำลังของภาคประชาชน และตำรวจ เข้าไปปฏิบัติในฐานะกอ.รมน. เราได้เตรียมการไว้ทุกอย่างเรียบร้อย แต่เราต้องเรียนให้รัฐบาลทราบว่าขั้นตอนการปฏิบัติสลายการชุมนุมมีราย ละเอียดอย่างไร และจะส่งผลกระทบต่อสถานที่และชีวิตผู้ชุมนุมอย่างไร ซึ่งท่านคงจะชั่งใจอีกครั้งว่าจะทำหรือไม่ แต่รัฐบาลต้องตระหนักว่า พร้อมจะรับความผิดชอบความสูญเสียที่เกิดขึ้นหรือไม่ เพราะ เหตุ 7 ตุลาฯยังไม่จาง ทั้งนี้ทางกองทัพเห็นว่าเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่ควรกระทำ ” พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าว
เมื่อถามว่า หากนายกฯมีคำสั่งประกาศใช้ พ.ร.ก.ฉุกเฉิน ให้ทหารเข้าไปแก้ปัญหา ผบ.ทบ.พร้อมปฏิบัติตามหรือไม่ พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าวว่า ถ้าได้รับคำสั่งต้องเรียนให้ท่านทราบว่า ผลเสียเป็นอย่างไร ท่านจะทำหรือไม่ ถ้าท่านให้ทำ เราในฐานะข้าราชการประจำจะต้องปฏิบัติ แต่กองทัพเห็นว่า ไม่น่าทำ ไม่อยากทำ และไม่เหมาะสมที่จะกระทำ ทั้งนี้ไม่ว่าจะเป็นทหารผู้ใดก็แล้วแต่ หากได้รับมอบหมายให้รับหน้าที่เป็นผู้นำ ถ้าเป็นทหารที่มีจิตวิญญาณความเป็นทหารอย่างแท้จริง ไม่ได้เอาอารมณ์ และความเมามันของตัวเองเป็นที่ตั้ง ไม่มีบุคคลใดที่จะกล้าดำเนินการอย่างเฉียบขาดกับกลุ่มผู้ชุมนุมที่เป็น ประชาชนคนไทย เมื่อเสนอไปแล้วทั้ง 2 ไม่ถูกใจไม่เป็นไร
พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าวว่า ส่วนการไปพูดคุยกับพันธมิตรนั้น เรื่องพันธมิตรจะออกจากสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ หรือไม่ หากรัฐบาลยุบสภานั้น เป็นเรื่องอนาคต ไม่มีใครรับประกันได้ แต่ถ้ามองในมุมของรัฐ ผู้ถืออำนาจ หากแสดงความบริสุทธิ์ใจ และตั้งใจจริง พยายามแก้ปัญหาอย่างสุดวิธีเท่าที่จะทำได้ เพื่อหาทางออกที่ดีที่สุด และถอยจนสุดตัว แต่พันธมิตรยังไม่เลิก สังคมจะเป็นผู้ตัดสินพิพากษาพันธมิตรว่า เขามีความชอบธรรมในการดำเนินการหรือไม่ เมื่อสังคมตัดสิน กลุ่มผู้ชุมนมจะมีน้อยลง และเจ้าหน้าที่จะสามารถบังคับใช้กฎหมายได้สะดวกขึ้น และชอบธรรมขึ้น
" ผบ.ทบ. ในฐานะรอง ผอ.รมน. ได้ประชุมศูนย์ติดตามสถานการณ์ร่วมของกองทัพบก ช่วงเช้าวันที่ 27 พฤศจิกายนที่ผ่านมา และได้กำชับให้ ผอ.รมน.ภาค ไปบูรณาการกับ ผอ.รมน.จังหวัด ทำงานร่วมกับเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ ทหารและฝ่ายปกครอง เพื่อป้องกันไม่ให้มีการปะทะกัน ไล่ยิงกัน เหมือนเป็นบ้านป่าเมืองเถื่อน หากเจอที่ไหนต้องจับ และต้องบังคับใช้กฎหมายอย่างเข้มข้น ตลอดจนต้องคุมสถานีวิทยุชุมชนไม่ให้ปลุกปั่นความคิดของประชาชนให้เกิดความ แตกแยกไปมากกว่าเดิม ซึ่งกอ.รมน. จังหวัดต้องขับเคลื่อนใน 2 ประเด็นนี้เป็นหลัก ” พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าว
เมื่อถามว่า การที่ผบ.ทบ.เสนอให้ยุบสภา จะส่งผลให้นายกฯปลดผบ.ทบหรือไม่ พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าวว่า “ ท่านจะปลดผบ.ทบ.หรอ ท่านเสนอแนะทางออกให้ประเทศชาติด้วยความบริสุทธิ์ใจ ท่านทำตามหน้าที่ที่ได้รับมอบหมายจากนายกฯ ” เมื่อถามว่า ผบ.ทบ.ไม่กลัวที่จะถูกปลดออกจากตำแหน่งใช่หรือไม่ พ.อ.สรรเสริญ กล่าวว่า ท่านอายุ 58 ปี ผ่านอะไรในชีวิตมามากมาย และท่านไม่เคยกลัวอะไร

The Fassbinder's project to look back at pre-Nazi Germany, even his color schemes are an integral factor. The film is shot in predominantly dark hues, and especially an array of browns that give the film as a whole a sepia tinge, traditionally the signifier for a nostalgic reminiscence. In some sense, Berlin Alexanderplatz is nostalgia, a retreat into a past era, but it's anything but a fond portrait of this time period, and as such the sepia color palette becomes an ironic commentary on the film's content, suggesting not nostalgia but dirt and decay. The overall darkness and graininess of the film also contributes to the worn, dingy appearance of its Weimar Berlin. Fassbinder shot the film on 16mm for German TV, but always intended to present it theatrically as well, and apparently cared so little for the television presentation that he didn't take into account that large portions of the image would often appear entirely black or gray on the substandard early 80s German TV sets. The film's rugged aesthetic allows for more visibility on the big screen and in its current DVD transfer, but even so shadows often overtake the frame, and darkness descends in bursts and flashes. In each of these two episodes, there is a scene where a lightning storm outside provides the only illumination while Franz sits inside; the screen switches from near-black to briefly lit-up.

Fassbinder also turns with increasing frequency to the distancing effect of direct quotation from D'blin's novel via narration. The first episode limited this technique to the scene of Ida's murder, set in the past, but the second episode steps back from the action in this manner for a couple of scenes set in Franz's present. In both cases, these are scenes in which Franz himself is distant from the action in some sense, whether physically or mentally. In the first such scene, Franz watches from a distance as Lina accosts the newspaperman who had enlisted Franz to sell pornographic books. Franz has stepped back from this event not just by virtue of his physical location — he watches, hidden by fog, from around the corner — but with a kind of moral distancing. Franz himself had seemed inclined to accept and endorse the sexual freedom promised by these books, and he even reads to Lina an account of a man who had been arrested for his private acts of homosexuality. Franz, in reading this story, seems amazed and somewhat sympathetic to the man's situation, but Lina interprets this as Franz's admission of his own homosexuality, and forces him to either give back the books or lose her. Lina is an embodiment of conservative sexual morality in Weimar Germany, espousing an attitude that would dovetail neatly with both Nazi and religious censure. Franz's brief dalliance with sexual liberalism and egalitarianism suggests the other side of the coin in 1920s Germany, an open-mindedness that would flourish for only a short time before being stamped out by more determined forces of oppression. Franz, by allowing Lina to cow him into dropping his exploration of these issues, is relinquishing his moral free will, allowing her to literally stand in for him and make his decisions for him. When he stands to the side, watching her thrash and verbally abuse the news vendor who gave him the books, he is in some small way allowing fascism to take root.

Now she is the subject of controversy, humiliation and the people of Vietnam had already judge her. A video sex scandal of her with her ex-boyfriend is now hot on the net. The video spreads out like fire as it reaches the parents of the children once her fans and her home studio.

After a few weeks she gave a public apology on air and her TV show was suddenly cancelled.

The scandal, involving a video that appears to show the star of popular TV series Vang Anh's Diaries having sex, has sparked intense debate. Two men and two women, all in their twenties, will be prosecuted for "dispersing illicit material of sexual content" on the internet. If found guilty, they could face up to three years in jail. Nguyen Huu Tai, Vo Thanh Hiep, Nguyen Thu Linh and Vu Thi Thuy Linh are accused of making and posting the 16-minute video clip of 19-year-old TV star Hoang Thuy Linh on the internet. Police are also investigating another 10 people, mostly students and some currently studying overseas, for "storing, transporting and dispersing illicit material". The four people arrested are accused of copying the video clip, filmed by mobile phone, from a computer belonging to Thuy Linh's boyfriend.

The Vanh Anh's Diaries series, which focused on the daily lives of Vietnamese school students, was popular with both young people and the older generation. Unprecedented attention from the public, especially among internet users, prompted Vietnam Television to drop the series which was in its second season. It is interesting to note that in the usa or anywhere in the west this would not be taken as much of shock for some celebrities.

Rape of Woman, Man accused of Kidnap

William Geovanny Abreu, 32, no fixed address has been charged with rape, kidnapping to inflict injury, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and carrying a firearm without a license, police said.

Harrisburg Police arrested a man for kidnapping a woman at gunpoint Thursday night, forcing her to pay for a motel room, raping her and driving her home.

Abreu ordered the woman, who he knew, into his car at 11:45 p.m. along the 1500 of Paxton Street and stated he would kill her and himself if she did not comply, police said.

Abreu drove the woman to the Fairview Motel along Eisenhower Blvd. in Swatara Township and forced her pay for a room, where he raped her, police said.

The victim then convinced Abreu to drive her home, where she called authorities, police said.

The Dauphin County Crisis Response Team arrested Abreu shortly before 5 a.m. Friday at the motel. He has been placed in the Dauphin County Prison.

True Eternal Love

“Ya’akov loved Rachel. He said (to her father Lavan) I will work for you for seven years, in exchange for your youngest daughter Rachel… Ya’akov worked for Rachel for seven years, but in his eyes it seemed like only a few days, for he loved her.”

It is not often that the Torah discusses love. Therefore, when we find such sections, we should focus on them and try to gain as much as we can in our understanding of love.

Love is a universal idea. Most people believe they feel or have felt love. But, as this section makes clear, what we think of as love and true love might not be the same thing. In fact, they might even be complete opposites. When a person loves someone he yearns to be with them, a day apart feels like years. But, as the Torah tells, in the case of Ya’akov, the opposite was true. Although he was separated from Rachel for seven years, “in his eyes it seemed like only a few days, because he loved her.” What does this mean? If he loved her, the years should have felt like centuries.

Although we are going to attempt to explain in a spiritual way what true love means, the concept is not easily understood. As Rabbi Ashlag says, what we do not truly comprehend and feel, cannot truly be understood by us. Therefore, it is difficult to understand true love, being as in reality, a lot of us have never actually felt it. If we come away with only one lesson from this section, it should be that what we perceive as love, and true love are two totally different things.

Rabbi Yehuda Leib Chasman uses the feeling of mercy and concern that we may feel for others as an example of the difference between true feelings and self-centered feelings for others. There are people who are naturally full of mercy for others. They cannot bear to see someone else suffering. Although this is an admirable quality, the reality is, that this feeling of mercy is centered around their “I”. It bothers them to see others suffer and they therefore want to assist the other person in alleviating that pain and suffering. This is of course a wonderful nature, but the reality of it is that it makes the person himself feel better when he is merciful for others. In other words, we can say that he is basically being merciful to himself.

The same idea is true concerning love. At its core, most of the time when people refer to love, that love is rooted in their love for themselves. This can be clarified with a parable. A man walks into a restaurant. The waiter asks him what he would like. He responds that he loves fish. The fish is cooked and then cut up. The man then proceeds to eat the fish. Is this love? Is this the way one treats someone he loves? This man does not love fish. He loves himself, he loves to fill himself with fish.

Although the story sounds kind of silly, it reveals a very important lesson. All of us use the word love. In this story it becomes clear that, more often than not, when we use the word love with respect to others, we actually mean love for ourselves. In other words, we love what that person does for us, the way he or she makes us feel. The bottom line is that we do not really love others, rather, we love ourselves. What we often feel as love for others is actually just an extension of our love for ourselves.

Therefore, when we love, it is really the “I” that we love. When we are separated from whatever it is that fulfils the “I”, we are upset and we cannot wait for the separation to end: a day seems like a year. Rabbi Yehuda Leib Chasman explains that true spiritual love is above and beyond time. Time does not affect true love for it does not exist on the same plane. This is the love that Ya’akov felt for Rachel. It was true love and was not influenced by time. This is what the Torah means when it says, “in his eyes, it seemed like only a few days,” for their love was true, and, therefore, beyond the boundaries of time. In a few words the Torah reveals what made their love so special, “for he loved her” - their love was not self-centered, it was the truest love, one could have for another person.

This explanation may not be easy to grasp. Let us crystallize the basic lesson, which we can hopefully begin to utilize in our life. If we want to develop spiritually, if we want to begin to truly love others, we should follow a two-step process: Firstly, we should take the time to think and realize how a lot of what we think of as love for others is truly an extension of our own self- love. Then we should try to focus ourselves on loving others, for what they are, and not for what they do for us physically or spiritually. This transformation from self-love to love of others is not a simple one. It takes time and effort but the reward of this process is to truly love others. When we reach that level of love, that is the ultimate, for that love is eternal beyond time and space. May we all merit to achieve true eternal love.

The CW has formally announced their Fall 2007 schedule on Thursday, and it has been confirmed that Veronica Mars is not on the schedule for a fourth season.

There was the thought that, if creator Rob Thomas can come up with some scripts for Veronica Mars: FBI by June 15, that the CW could reconsider, but considering the show's recent string of dismal ratings this is seeming very unlikely.
